Kankles and Cold Showers

We're here! Every single team member arrived safe and sound after a long journey that took me over 28 hours.  And yes, I know that's accurate because I started the stopwatch on my phone when I left Dallas and stopped it shortly after I landed it Nairobi.

Waiting for my teammates to take off on Emirates as their plane spends over an hour waiting on the runway.
It was interesting to see how many Baylor people were traveling literally all over the world on the exact same day.  When I came through airport security in Dallas one of the people scanning luggage said that I was probably the 100th Baylor person he had seen that day, all traveling on international flights.  There was a pretty big group of Baylor people on my flight (as well as some smaller groups from other universities) and I ran into an old friend from summer camp who was also traveling to Amsterdam and eventually South Africa, small world.  But even more interestingly, I figured out that the lady and daughter that sat next to me during the entire 8 hour flight were the mother and sister of another Baylor athlete.  They're originally from Italy but just happened to be traveling back to Europe from graduation. In Amsterdam, a girl stopped me in the bathroom to ask about my Baylor shirt and said she had just graduated and was also traveling to Nairobi.  On my flight to Nairobi I ran into my Kenyan friend, Dennis, who is part of the organization we work with in Nairobi.  It's amazing how many people you can run into literally on the other side of the world.

Here we go!
Well the flight was pretty terrible, both of them.  Every single time I travel across the world I forget how much I loathe being stuck in a cramped cabin sitting straight up for so many hours.  Not to mention the fact that when you get off the plane, from the look of your feet you might as well have gained 400 lbs.  Gotta love kankles!  One day people are going to look back on air travel and think how terrible it much have been, you're absolutely right!
(Serious first world problems)

Exhausted and ready for a real bed and a hot shower, we finally arrived at the Grace House Resort in Nairobi to cold showers!  Yuck.  But, last last night was possibly the best night of sleep I've ever gotten. I might as well have been dead to the world, it was excellent.  And I got to live out my childhood dream of sleeping under a princess canopy (aka mosquito net because malaria is prevalent in this area)!
Princess canopies with my awesome roomie Bri!
